Ceridian

My husband and I participate in the Flexible Spending Account program through Ceridian. We deduct from our paycheck for childcare and healthcare, to be paid back to us at a later date, of course. So basically, we pay Ceridian a certain amount of money each paycheck, they end up investing it and earning interest off it, then they give us our money back when we submit a claim. Or at least that’s what they’re supposed to do…

Click here to see what Ceridian says about "going above and beyond," which is the last item on the page. Now click here to see what Ceridian says about "worry free safety and reliability."

Here’s my story… The end of 2008 came around and my husband and I were looking forward to having a little extra cash in our bank account with the funds that Ceridian owed us. However, lo and behold! Ceridian didn’t pay up. Why, you may ask? Because Ceridian’s computer system had an end of the year “glitch” and our account balance was wrong on their end. Oh, but hey! They are “working on getting it fixed.”

Wow. I am so fed up with Corporate America. I’m tired of hearing about the oil companies making record-breaking profits while the rest of us struggle with the economy and sky-high gas prices. I’m tired of hearing about the bailout for the “Big Three” US automakers, while at the same time, Toyota and Honda are still making a profit because they don’t have to deal with outrageous and stupid union workers to bring them down. And are you aware that Ceridian’s annual revenue for 2007 was reported to be $1.7 billion(!), and yet they can’t reimburse a hard-working, middle-class family a measly $600 because of a “computer glitch!”

Something is terribly wrong with this picture. How is this allowed to happen? Our hard-earned money, which was entrusted to Ceridian, is not available to us because of a computer glitch? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? “Dear Uncle Sam! I can’t pay my taxes this year because my computer is having a mental breakdown and won’t spit out the numbers correctly!” Yeah, right! So why would this huge corporation (Ceridian) believe this is an acceptable excuse for the hard-working people who trust them with handling their money? IT’S NOT! I believe in FSA’s; however, I’m beginning to doubt the integrity of Ceridian.

And what’s the outcome of this? As of January 19, Ceridian are still withholding the money we entrusted to them, have done so for over a month, and they still don’t have the problem fixed. As well, we can’t claim off the 2009 account either as they have the balance wrong in that one! (We make regular deposits of $192 per paycheck, but they only have us credited with $57). So, as usual, the big corporation wins and the little people lose, and there's not a thing that can be done about it. What a surprise.
